Mythical Creatures & Home Inspection
Today was the day of our home inspection, which means we had to jump ship (pun intended) and kill 4-5 hours away from here. We planned a visit to the Museum of Nature & Science.
We were pleasantly surprised when we pulled into the parking lot of the museum an hour later that it didn’t seem terribly crowded…well that was shot as soon as we walked in. There were tons of little humans and big humans running around, screaming, crying, making a fuss…it was like a zoo. We got our tickets and headed through the first part of the museum; planetary stuff! We didn’t linger long because we were really there for one thing; The Mythical Creatures Exhibit.
Some of you may know this and others of you may not, but we are SUPER NERDS about mythical creatures. We are obsessed with fantasy books geared for “young adults” and would be happy in a world with dragons, krakens, big foot, unicorns and of course the Loch Ness Monster!
So we spent the morning learning about how all these creatures came to be; through folklore, through the inuit tribes of the past, through misconception or simply through intriguing storytelling; but it was pretty fascinating that in ancient times, people took these stories to heart causing mythical creatures to take on a literal form. People actually believed they were real. The creature with the most “realistic” potential of existence was the Sasquatch. This is the only primate that they can actually prove to exist 300,000 years ago all over the globe (pretty freaky!!!)
After a ‘short’ 3 hours we meandered through prehistoric “dino” lands, minerals and gems of the southwest and wildlife / bird dioramas for another hour. Afterwards we decided to drive over to a nearby park and hang out, eat snacks and soak in the scenery. Because it was very frigid outside we had tea and pretzels in the car. It was very nostalgic for us, since this was one of our primary forms of entertainment when we first moved out west.
We headed back home in the hopes that our house inspection went well and that we can be on our way to the new adventure (ANY MINUTE NOW!!!). Until then all we can do is wait.
In other news, we are officially BOAT OWNERS today!
This is right up my alley…..I love fantasy. Sorry we missed it on our many trips to you. Maybe we’ll make it back there someday in our……..dare I say it, RV?
RV definitely!
